Dear Diary,
Today I accidentally listened to 58 seconds of a Sex Pistols song. To repent, I listened to 34 minutes and twenty seconds of Iggy Pop, 4 minutes and 12 seconds of Screaming Jay Hawkins, and the sound of white noise run through a Ring Modulator.

West Side Story V.F. [Mar. 28th, 2008|12:41 am]
Hey all,
So as you all know since I've been plugging this like there's no tomorrow... I'm playing guitar in West Side Story (French Version) in about, oh... TOMORROW. If anybody is interested in seeing it, I've got a pair of tickets for a performance Saturday at 2:00PM that I am trying to sell off. Tickets are $30 a pop. Yes, you love me that much. So I'll see you Saturday, right?

Other show times are 8:00pm on Friday and 8:00pm on Saturday, but you are only allowed going to those if I get rid of these other two tickets first. The show is at the Corona on Notre Dame O. x of Charlevoix.

Cheers.

a decent cover [Mar. 7th, 2008|11:00 pm]
There's no vocalist so the bass does the verses... if you're impatient, this doesn't really pick up until 4 minutes in, but it winds up being worthwhile:

I Told You So: a story in two parts [Mar. 1st, 2008|10:35 pm]
Part 1:

Several months ago, some time in the fall, a telephone pole behind my house got hit by a car. This was a regular occurrence, as the telephone pole straddles a lane and a parking lot. The parking lot belongs to the dep below my house. The drivers who pull in and out of their are for the most part buying booze, often more booze, or are rushed delivery people. Somehow, neither of these categories understand the practical use of a rear view mirror, or the concept that a pole will not get out of your way. When the pole got hit last fall, I decided that it was sagging dangerously towards our house, and given the high cracks running through the base, it was time to have it taken away. I called Bell and they were happy to replace it with a new, less saggy one. I informed them that this wasn't just a one-time impact, but a continual wear and tear, and that the new pole would require a concrete or metal base. Something to do more damage to vehicles than to the pole. This request fell on deaf ears.

Part 2:

Friday morning I woke up, had my coffee, and left for work. I turned the corner and walked up the street only to stop at the parking lot. A Police car was parked on the street, and the lane and parking lot were blocked off by yellow police tape. I looked to where the pole used to be and saw only a jagged stump. Lying next to the said stump, was the pole, having fallen on a snow mound. Fortunately, it fell towards the slack in its cables, otherwise, my phone would have cut out, and likely the electricity as well. I stopped in to speak to my landlord. The pole fell in the spot that he parks his car EVERY DAY, except that day, because his car was in the garage. A delivery truck backed in to the pole and it came straight down offering little resistance. I didn't see the truck, but I can only guess that any damage to it would have been purely aesthetic. My landlord has suggested to bell time and time again that they move the pole to the corner of the lane and the parking lot so that people would be less likely to hit it. They are willing to do that, but at my landlords expense. Needless to say, it's cheaper to just let it get knocked down so that bell can pay to pick it back up.

I've been telling myself that this would never happen... that it was just a rumour, or a faded dream. Perhaps I've been in denial, having been burned by previous attempts to rekindle a franchise from my childhood, but this time it's real. I told myself I wouldn't care... I told myself I didn't want to know. I told myself not to get excited, because excitement leads to disappointment... But if this isn't proof that it's real, and it may have some merit, and I am actually going to get excited about this.... I don't know what is:

Why Modern Dance Sucks [Jan. 20th, 2008|12:58 pm]
When you compare the bulk of modern dance to its roots in Jazz Ballet, it seems as though they took all the positive elements and threw them away:

In Quebec, you have the SAAQ, the SAQ and the SQ. The SAAQ gets you your auto-insurance, the SAQ gets you your booze, and the SQ pulls you over for drunk driving.

Sounds a little like The Who met Beck while talking to the Beach boys while drunk and philosophizing about how the Queens of the stone age should reduce the bass in their songs.

A high bid you can't refuse... [Nov. 28th, 2007|11:14 pm]
I'm sure this can easily be explained by a slight fault in the CGI script, however, I became a little disconcerted when I read the following on Paypal's Complaints page:

If you live , you can file a general complaint if you are unsatisfied with the level of service you received from PayPal. Your complaint will be routed to a PayPal Customer Service representative who will respond to your complaint.

I question the alternatives...

JOHN

English form of Iohannes, which was the Latin form of the Greek name Ιωαννης (Ioannes), itself derived from the Hebrew name יוֹחָנָן (Yochanan) meaning "YAHWEH is gracious". This name owes its consistent popularity to two New Testament characters, both highly revered as saints. The first was John the Baptist, the forerunner of Jesus Christ and a victim of beheading by Herod Antipas. The second was the apostle John, also supposedly the author of the fourth Gospel and Revelation.

The name has been borne by 21 popes and eight Byzantine emperors, as well as kings of England, France, Sweden, Denmark, Poland, Portugal and Hungary. It was also borne by the poet John Milton and the philosopher John Locke.
